As above. I've been practicing a few emergency starts and the car either bogs down or lights the tyres up?

Obviously some fancy electronic aids would be the ultimate solution.

At one point in the development of the TT we ended up with an engine that did exactly what you say. No matter what you did you never got it right.

Steve is right though. A lower boost settin in 1st can really help. Looking at my logs, I don't use much more than 30% throttle in first.

The problem with turbo cars is that 30% throttle can give 90% power, so it's always going to be tricky.

I think that I'll plumb in a primitive boost control system to limit the boost using a button controlled solenoid perhaps.

I'll try a few launches with the boost set to 7psi rather than the 20 I've been on :)

When I had a fibre clutch could do perfect launches. However with a paddle it is either depressed or the wheels are spinning under such conditions!

Had a similar experience with the van. You just have to be more granular with the clutch pedal.
And with the ultralight fly give it a few more revs.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I thought about tyre pressure this morning. I'll dump a but if air out and try again.

John. I've got a lightweight flywheel, but the verto assembly is still pretty heavy. More revs wont help me as I'm spinning the wheels much more than bogging down, so I think Will's 30% input theory is probably better advice for my aggressive feet.

Cheers for the input guys.

My favourite launch method is:-

Left foot down
select 1st
right foot down
slide left foot sideways off clutch.

This is usually followed by getting out of the car and phoning the RAC.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

If you have a solenoid valve on the bleed valve. either before or after, then you can modulate your launch by only switching to high boost after you change to second, as you have already said.

I find that its a very interesting process trying to drive one handed on full throttle while juggling clutch gear lever and the boost switch.

Unless you can practice on the sort of surface they have on the start line it will always be a bit different to anything you do on the road.

True-on the road you will prob get more grip if York Raceway is anything to go by! Switchable boost is a yes, one of my next mods but practice on the road only does so much, it all changes on the track IMO.

Bollocks. I've got breakdown cover you know!

Don't worry, no matter how much of a shit start I get, I'll make up for it with extra boost on the rest of the run. Besides I won't be using bald tyres like you!

if i had a gt17 fitted, i'll bet the brakes on it i'll beat ya!

as for the boost, i may up it to 15psi just to give you a run for your money. even if i melt down just means i'll rebuild with my pistions in your garage!. i'll wager a pint of good ale, three runs, best run wins!
