Who the hell is Max speeding?
I just cannot see how a good set of rods can be manufactured and sold with a profit for that price

I seriously doubt it!

leeds/wakefield.

I thought we'd been through this many times before,

you simply take intio account the chinese labour rates, also they have there own steel supplies,

then remember that they most likely sell all there really good steels abroad, or use it for international industry stuff,

and what ever steels are left they make stuff like this from,

they are usually a fair bit heavier than the top brand names,[see above for reason]

and i have seen a set that were about 5-6 gms difference in weights,

now 4-6 gms does not seem a lot but once you have removed that from the offending rods to match the lightest, they really do look butchered,

My point was making a GOOD set of rods. Plus the bolts are £70 on their own that only leaves just over £300, the billets are £50 each over here - they cant be much cheaper in China, that leaves say £150 for forging, machining and profit. It still dont add up to me

I seriously doubt it!

ah but how much does forging and machining cost over there, remember that even in Shenzhen (the highest paid part of China) the average wage is still only about £1 per hour,

I know that we have had metal from China that is all Lloyd's certified, but testing it proved different. They basically don't understand or care about quality and photocopy certificates.

Its not just China though.

Corruption is a significant part of the problem too, the Triads are getting/have got their fingers in a lot of pies.

it is possible to get good stuff made over there, but you have to pick you suppliers, and their suppliers carefully as yes they will try it on, but once yoey realise that you will be checking batches and throwing it back they will either tow the line or not want to deal with you again.

at work we have a LOT of stuff made in china, and are able to maintain better quality and faliure rates than we ever were with UK built stuff at much lower cost and much higher through puts.

LOL as an aside a few years ago we had a rush order, due to this where we normally container stuff from china to the US we hired 2 jumbo's a week for three months.

Don't forget that that price is exclusive of VAT.

Add VAT and look how much they cost. Now I know a couple of certain brands that would cost similar, and are reputed to be manufactured in the UK.
