Hi I'm looking at buying a dogbox gearset.

Looking at the options there is Swiftune and MED
Anybody tried the MED set? Cost is much lower.

Thanks

They are both very similar, i have the Swiftune set which is superb

I seriously doubt it!

I'd go for the swifty kit for a couple of reasons,

1 the selector forks are bronze,
2 the layshaft is multi peice so its a bit more rebuildable and there are more ratio's available

Very nice piece of kit that swiftune kit. I have been lucky enough to have one in my hands, but not lucky enough to own it :(

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Thank you for your comments. I was leaning towards the Swiftune kit as all their stuff seems to be topnotch. Wish they would drop the price!

Excellent, which did you go for in the end?

I seriously doubt it!

Tareq, may be a bit late for you but the med kit is very nice to use, it's the gearset designed by Mick Barrett for the sequential project, it drives on the road like a normal gearkit, very impressed, certainly usable in road car, I've not given it any abuse yet, this is with one of Roberts clutch assy's on it. If anyone is considering a kit, it's more than worth a look.

Jk

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I ordered the Swiftune kit. Bit more expensive. Was thinking about the MED kit but after the last conversation I had with them... you know
I've been looking at the pics of that sequential kit. Looks quite simple. Its the rods to the forks that look abit messy. You and your CNC friends should be able to wip one up in a weekend!

Ive always wondered what a dogbox would be like for normal road use, bike engined kit cars seem to work ok because the gearbox runs at less than engine speed (1.6 x less for example) so down changes appear to go quite smoothly.

How does this work with a Mini Dog box? is there a lot of backlash in the dogs?

Yes the backlash is quite large and loose, certainly more than the project I'm currently working on, but I was amazed how nice it is to use just pootling around the road, no notchiness or crunching, very positive engagement etc you really can't tell it's a dog box, wether this will change once the dogs have the corners smoothed off, time will tell.
Tareq, I understand but it is a good product so far, I bought mine 5years ago, one of the first made.lol. The swiftune has un rivalled reputation looking forward to seeing it under your k motor

Eventually the dogs will loose the angle on the edges. Driver skill would determine how long that takes.

Would be nice if someone came up with a kit for a shift drum, ratchet and other bits needed to convert to sequential. Loads of space in the gearbox on the speedo drive area. Could nick a few bits of a FTR or similar gearbox for the ratchet mechanism.

I would have a go but its difficult having anything creative machined over here.

Tareq, "driver skill" that's me knadgered then.lol! If I didn't have an awesome design project underway (not mini) I could be swayed to having a look, this time next year maybe.

Already have , currently undergoing testing in a road car .1500 +miles with no issues. Even the "reverse" is working fine .Fingers crossed maybe in a position to start making kits in about 6 months job permitting
