I've just been reading a thread over on the mini forum reguarding verto and pre verto clutch's.

My current engine is a verto, and I'm building a 1330 metro turbo engine.
which clutch would be better to use for a turbo? Verto or Pre-verto clutch? Or are they both equal?

I used the search but couldn't find an answer.

for the power your looking at your probably outside what a verto can handle although you might be able to try a few and find an extra strong one that will take it,

for the pre verto you can get grey and double grey pressure plates that will handle the power, but you can get issues with the crank thrust bearings dieing as the double grey puts a lot of stress on them.

However, there is a third option If you are a bit handy in the machine shop, you can pull apart two verto clutches and make one with two springs ie double the strength, these clutches have the benifit of not loading the thrust bearings anywhere near as much.

That's what I'm doing, the infamous RTS verto....

The people with the big power run these, as above much less thrust stress that the pre verto. And more clamping pressure than a double grey.

Not that difficult either, once I get the bits from Joe I'll be doing a photo how to...

Well I'm looking to get around 140-160 bhp so a grey plate will do right?

ive been thinking about clutches latley can the RTS conversion work with the std metro cable or will it be to much & keep snapping them & have to go down the rout of changeing the pedle box & go RTS or pre verto?

I'd think it would be a bit much for the cable,

when I had a metty at one point i had pre verto gubbins and the cable setup, gave a very short pedal, but not to hard as I was on a std pressure plate, that did break a couple of cables where they go on to the pedal which they made from plastic for some reason .

If you could replace that placky bit with metal somhow I think it would hold up ok though.

I have been working on the latest generation of RTS clutch which is far far simpler to assemble and more reliable (not that others have not been) But I'm still in need of a fresh AP verto to finish it off and post up a how to guide!!!!!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
