Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I just fitted some new door steps to my mini, i seam welded where it joined the main panel's where there previously wasnt a seam. along the door edge (where the rubber fits) i spot welded as per original fit.

it failed today! aledgedly the new rules say that ANY repair panel should be seam welded. Doesnt make sense to me at all!

Pi55ed me right off. Fortunately coz i know the guy he said he sort me out the re-test's re-test for free *smiley* still another bloody job though, thought it would be sorted after today!!!

but i mean in places where it was already spot welded?

i.e. along the sill seam between the sill and door step?

My van failed the mot for the same I said it was spot wellded when new but he wasnt happy and wouldnt pass it.He did pass it the next day after fitting a trim over the seam he told me that they are not alowed to remove trim so they have to pass it.

I always make the stuff look original.

That's the key to it.

Also, keep your mouth shut about how anything has been replaced.

Fact is, sounds like your MOT tester is a bit of an anti-christ. If he knows you, and knows they were spot-welded originally, he should let it pass.

yeah thats exactly what i thought dave, plus allan the trim was fitted (i.e. the door seal and crappy plastic sill strips)

guess its better to have a thorough (sp?!) garage than one that doenst give a fook about what condition the car is in.

i did tell him its spot welded originally but he said rules are rules. GAY!!! Lol!

more welding wire for me!! think im going to get another shell for the proper rebuild so it doesnt look to crap!!!!!

thorough is good - the guy who did my mot's didn't worry about wiper blades, winsdcreen washer bottles being empty, chips/craks in lenses etc, but always checked the brakes/suspension and rusty areas very carefully....

Don't have to worry about MOT's anymore mind!
