Hey chaps.

My car has the hardest ride of any car I've ever been in (and I use an elise daily, so I'm no panzy!).

It's running on fairly recent cones and Gaz adjustable shocks, set at about 1/2 or 1/3 stiffness. (any lower on the stiffnesa and the tyres rub).

So, what options do I have to combat it? It really makes the car no fun to drive, and I've actually been thinking about flogging it. I'd rather give it one last chance at becoming usable, so, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA.

Won't that allow the tyre to rub again?

If it aint rubbong you aint dubbing....
Easy way to solve your problem is to raise the ride hight a little and soften it up, or deal with it and remember it will be perfect on track?
Is it front or back that rubs or both??

I have already raised it by about two inches higher than I want.
I don't / won't use it on track so that's not an issue. The rear rubbed. Doesn't now as I set the firmness up again.

My old mini rubbed like hell on the front, the back was about an 1.5" higher than the front handeled well a little twitchy breaking hard in the wet but it made it more fun lol. Or can you trim the rear arches a little?

Just took it to get some petrol - the front end is actually fine- not harsh no crashy bangs and no rubbing. So, it's just the rear end.

If it is rubbing then either raise the ride height or have the arches tubbed so it will run low without rubbing.

What wheels/tyres are you running?

I too would recommend tubbing the rear arches.

10x5 wellers atm, with yoko jobbies. not too wide and not a crazy offset. It's not rubbing on the plastic arches, but the car itself, only over harsh bumps.

With those deep sidewalls you should be fine no matter how hard the shocks are. Are the tyre pressures set to 80psi?

In the 13's at last!.. Just

2 options , run it higher on the back and turn the dampers to softest ,thats how i run mine . or tub the arches . im using gaz on softest on the back and no3 on the front for general use ,then 3 on the back and 5 on the front for wapping about .

It's rubbing on the inner arch rather than the top?

If so, raising it won't make a differance. try fitting 5mm spacers on the rear, then soften the shocks and lower it back down.

I find that the GAZ/Spax etc. are too hard even on minimum for a road car.

Al, we need to know where it is rubbing mate. Wheel off and a picture please.

The hard ride is the effect of trying to mask the real problem (the rubbing) by winding up the dampers. Sort the rubbing and you can have soft suspension and the ride height you want.
