I'm currently building a 1330 engine, and looking for around 150BHP. Do you guys think Banded steels will be up to the job? As i've heard they're not strong enough...

if there done properly, i see no reason why not.

I'd also comment that the quality of the wheel shouldn't be any differant for any spec; its not just engine power they have to deal with but all the forces through suspension, cornering etc. You'll get all that from an 850cc, albeit not at the same top speed perhaps.

Hi
As already stated, if done correctly there shouldn't be any issues. I've run banded rims on that sort of power. The banded section should be stepped and not butt weelded in, as well not hving to much offset. Just be carefull when selecting, I do think there are some VW companies that still carry out banding services. I personally done my own.

Nothing at all but it shows that the centres, attatched to a banded rim, cant take lots of power and abuse

I seriously doubt it!

I would suggest that the banding by moving out the width is increasing the stress on the central pressed part of the wheel well beyond what it was originally intended to survive. Hence a failure.
