Australia oi oi oi!

info from http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=65033 originally

what a work of Art!!! this box is under a bmw k turbo A series with 190ATW!!!! this is a DOG BOX AND RACE ONLY.

I may have posted this before? there is a 6 speed 1100 RR box for road coming as a kit from australia hopefully.

The honda boxes are straight cut gears but are a full sequential shift so the gears are in constant mesh and the selector dogs are timed to the shafts/gears.

The kit you speak of is a Honda 1100rr gear set into a mini box. Sounds like an economical idea to be honest.

Any videos of it running?

I think 6 gears is a bit much though, I had 6 forward gears in one of my old cars, hardly used 4th and 5th. In a car like a mini you'll be up and down the gears all the while (enjoying it though with sequential changes)

Looks interesting. Wonder how it would stand up to turbo torque?

Can you use a standard mini diff/cwp with it?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I wouldn't see much point personally in paying as much as im guessing that is going to cost for 2 gears i probably wouldn't use. But the idea and work behind it look very smart.

It's not just the torque i could see being a problem. a mini weighs a lot more than a bike so the box is working much harder under.more strain to get moving

Australia oi oi oi!

the bloke is running 190atw turbo BMW K head mini & has had no problems at all and he is using the weaker gear set that the original bloke said don't use as they are weak... beats every car on the historic race track as well, this one in the photo is a dog box though..

but the next one same kinda gears straight cut for road.

i think it is shit loads stronger.

the gears are twice the size of the mini gears, so stronger????? dunno..

it's not my kit though just seen the info flying around, i knew it would interest you lot. :)

they are not going to cost much at all so i have been told, trying to keep them very low cost the gear sets are only $80 to $180us cheap, no price yet but less then a 3rd of what the kad one costs.

they can't be to hard to make, if you are handy with the machines, unlike me no idea :(

this gearbox was copied from another forum where another guy posted up info.

So the gearset is out of a cbr1100? They turbo them I believe. Not sure if they have to upgrade the boxes though.

the one for road is going to be a cbr1100 yes. he has used a 600 cbr gear set. They are prone to smashing the dogs.

For a road car the honda VFR 800 or 1200 gear set are the best as 6th is over 1:1 [overdrive] and are almost as strong as the 1100 RR boxes.

the std bike output shaft fits into the mini main shaft just change bearings [I run taper rollers each end]

check up the top, I have linked you to another link from ausmini where it all begun, David is a very smart man & comes up with lots of crazy idea's!

he also made a 16v engine with another bike head.

i bet some one can make one of these. wish i could. i'm going to collect parts and give it a go though ONE DAY.

on that im out to bed.. haha happy info hunt lads :)

clever stuff. If it can be done for similar money to a minispares kit then it's got to be worth a try.

I'd need a good think about theratios though. I know at least 4 corners on the hills where I don't have the right gear. But equally, if the 1st isn't tall enough (I use the SC kit not the clubman) I'd only be a 5 speed box for me anyway!!

Not sure how a transmission originally designed for a 250kg motorcycle with 78lbft of torque will handle 550kg mini with 180lbft of torque, but then that might be me being a little skeptical, as ever *happy*

Not that that should put down the engineering and skills involved creating this!!

The bike engine z cars stuff seem to cope with the trans? Seems a good idea to me.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

But thats a bike engine with ~80lbft of torque, still a heavy car and I have seen a few broken transmissions of bike engined cars, not just minis.

Like I said, I might just be being skeptical

I know what you are saying, but we know that lots of the original mini gearbox, that was designed for 38bhp holds together pretty well. For a while anyway......

A "Decent" billet Case to suit would obviously be the next step ??? *smiley* it`s only money *smiley*

gotta love this sh!t hey? especially for super-lightweight, super high rev race minis with short power curves,,, *smiley* like maybe an R1 engine out to 1760cc or something stupid like that *smiley* now who would even bother making something like that hey? *smiley*

the guy that did this particular box was here in Brisbane for the Muster last year & has posted on 16v mini forum at one stage, nice fella.

That looks fantastic. Plus an overdrive top gear, even better ! Even if it is only a small step up.

The big chunk of aluminium affixed to the centre web is bound to help too. Might prevent the case cracking as they all do.

But then you couldn't use it in competition, I think we have covered this before.

Very nice, be interested to find out how much the conversion kit would cost, plus the whole chunk of machining.
