straight veg oil,

aparently blow by products contaminate the oil and you need to change it at reasonable intervals, if you leave it for far to long than you ever should, the the contaminants build up to a point that one day when you shut the engine down as the oil cools it will set like a jelly in the sump.

although I dont know if bio causes the same problem,

but anyway, as long as you change the oil at decent intervals you'll be fine.

So you changed the oil on Sunday, then it started to run like shit on the Monday and now you have jelly in your sump. Sounds like bad oil to me. No idea how you are going to get it out of there though....

I would be getting onto the oil's manufacturer and asking for their advise (and how to bill them for getting it out and fixing any damage!)

Ditto what Andy says. Get on to them and give them some grief.

As a side comment I would not put "Halfords Classic" in my lawnmower let alone my car engine.

Black death!!!

http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html

I noticed the halfords classic I used on the second stage break in on the 16 valver was a horible black and had an almost scorched smell from it when drained, I vowed never to use it again.

Do you have a sump gaurd? and how well positioned is the oil cooler?

I use that stuff, on saying that the engine is nothing special and i wouldn't use it on my new build, but ive never had a problem with it, perhaps just a bad batch? If so i suggest that they recall the stuff and investigate :/
With regards to getting the stuff out, i have heard of people flushing engines out with diesel, running it with diesel for 5 mins then dumping it and re filling with oil, not sure myself on that idea though, but if you added a small amount perhaps itll thin the oil down enough to clear things up and dump it.

sprocket; no sump gaurd and cooler behind grill.

here the plan:

1: remove as much of the crap as poss. and bypass the cooler with a stock pipe for cleaning process

2: fill with cheap oil and a cleaner

3: start up and pray for oil pressure, if no, quit and rebuild!

4: allow to idle for 20min and drop the oil

5: repeat a couple times to clean the oil ways propley

sound like a plan?

Take it apart. If you've got that gunk in your galleries you've no chance of flushing it out!
