Simple question:
When shimming the timing gears to get them in line, are the same shims used on both the crank and the cam ?

I've only ever had to shim the crank before, but the GT engine needs the cam wheel raising a bit and the crank shims seem too big in diameter.

Don't try to shim the cam wheel....

The triangular plate behind it is the axial thrust bearing for the cam so needs to be installed as it is for the cam end float to be right.

Do changes on the crank sprocket only.

So if the crank sprocket is too tall with no shims on the crank, how do I raise the cam sprocket to suit ?

maybe add another gasket behind the timing plate.

Or use an aftermarket gasket which is crap but a lot thicker...

I had to do this the other way around, ie, add loads of shims because the aftermarket gasket was too thick :)

That'll teach me to use a Payen gasket and one of Dave's shiny aluminium front plates... Guess it'll have to come apart again as I'm not daft enought to start filing the back of a Swiftune vernier duplex sprocket.

I blame Dave entirely, and will tell him so next time I see him !

It is Dave's fault !!
I've just measured the thickness of the ally plate and it is .025" THINNER than the standard steel one - no wonder it is lighter !!
