As part of my search for the optimum intercooler, I've started with trying to get an understanding of the actual impact on power output due to either pressure drop or thermal efficiency.

Based on a 25 Deg C ambient, 120 Deg C inlet temperature and 1 Barg boost, I've come up with the following chart:


The individual lines represent pressure loss through the intercooler in Bar.

Engine output is dependant on the density of the charge after the intercooler.
