Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but a search did not reveal anything

A few years ago I prepped my block with undercrown oil jets as per Vizards Bible by drilling the main caps and installing a grub screw with a 1mm hold drilled in it

It worked fine, but the main issue was that I had to pay an engineering firm to drill the 1mm hole in the hardened steel grub screw - most DIY drill jaws won't hold a 1mm bit and if it did, the chances of drilling and not snapping the tiny bit would be very slim

A couple of days ago I was looking for new tips for my MIG and suddenly realised that the tips already have the hole in them and are already threaded on one end - Doh!

So this made me think that if the drilling mods were done to the main caps and threaded with the same thread as the tips, these tips could be a very cheap alternative to other oil jet methods used

My only question is whether these tips would work as a jet, or is the metal used (is it copper or is it something else) not compatible with the cast main caps or with engine oils

If these tips could be used, they are very cheap compared to the Ford or BMW jets mentioned in other threads, come in different hole sizes, and it would mean that only DIY tools and skills would be needed to create the cooling jets

Just buy stainless grub screws instead of black hardened ones. You can then drill these at home.
This is what I did anyway. Holding the grub screw on an allen key the correct size held in the drill vice, then drill 1m with the pillar drill. I would be lying if I said I did not break any drills, but they are only a couple of quid for 10.
