Hi guys
I started to remove my rear pockets at the weekend just about cut out the o/s pocket but had to stop due to crappy weather but just veiwed a previous post about having to weld in box section to support shell from twisting because of the strenght given to b pillars by the pockets, my question is do you think Its to late to stop any damage???? The shell its self is a complete bare shell on flat boarded stand that covers the whole floor area, I have a 6 point cage but have not fitted yet, sorry for the essay but am streesing!! Bloody search button *happy*

you literally just need to weld a triangular plate in between the b pillar and sill, cut the bins out then weld the plate in - easy. Someone on here even did a plate with a nice swaged hole in but can't remember who is was. looked smart though. :)

It won't be a problem. But if you were thinking of using your car for hillclimbs then the pockets now need to be retained. I've had to weld mine back in.

It was longy that did the swaged hole...flash git! lol

I really wouldn't worry about the strength issue. Im not convinced that they are structural at all tbh.

I've recently just cut out my bins, and will be doing the small gusset to try and help with strength.

Does it make that much difference?

Turbo parts collector at the moment, almost ready.

Those flimsy pockets will do fuck all towards the structure of the shell. Theyre only held in by a few spotwelds and are flexible if you wiggle them with your hand, if they were stressed parts they would not be flexible at all.
I cut mine out donkeys years ago and have suffered no ill effects

I seriously doubt it!

My thoughts exactly...^^^^^^^

When you look at where they join to the shell and the angle at which they could possibly give structural strength, then twist the bin with your hands in that direction, you will see how easy it is to twist them and realise they could give no strength what so ever!

However, welding a triangular plate in would make it even stiffer. Why not?

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

You could always add a couple of holes if you felt the need Paul.
