hi all been searching but couldnt find much info for 1st do you put the sensor between the samco & plenum so it relies on heat transfer through the plenum pipe or do you bend the sensor around the end so its actualy in the air intake pipe? (concerned about failure & getting sucked into the intake system?) 2nd what sort of temps should i be looking for & hopeing/aiming for on full boost? whats dangerous levels & whats optimum ect thanks scott

we have the one on the upside down skip dangling into the mouth of the tube feeding the plebnum.

We also had one just outside the turbo outlet, but John broke it...

I've got a thermocouple positioned in my silicon hose just before the plenum. It's bolted and threadlocked in place using penny washers. I get 5-6oC above ambient most of the time, but max 32oC on long high boost pulls. I'm using PLX setup. You can also send a 0-5v signal to the megajolt to retard ignition at high temps.

However, my air filter temps are quite high due to the filter postion and under bonnet heat soak. I'm currently looking at using a air duct to supply colder/denser air to the filter from the front of the car.aThens am going to use a heat shield around the filter. I'm hoping this will bring temps down even further. After this a plan to make some kind of ducting to force more air through my IC. The great thing about AIT gauge is you can really see what's does and doesn't work.

One thing is for sure, the air temp slowly raises in traffic and Can reach 45+ with no air flow to the IC, something to consider for drag racing. My gauge shows danger any thing over 40oC. The temps quickly come back down once moving and speed obviously reduces charge temps.

i think mine reaches about 60 when ive left it for 10mins after a race. but it wont get lower unless there is air moving across the IC. however a charge cooler could be better if your drag racing?

Mines just a road going metro turbo *smiley* I've got an ic but its not very big so not sure how efficient at the min as I've just wired my gauge in today & havnt had a chance in having a drive iam planning on running 13-15 psi max boost & just got the sensor hooked round the plenum intake pipe like yours andy

Had the metro for a blast tonight drivin round engine at normal running temp the intakes about 25 degrees c. When I take it up the gears on a long road & hold it in 4th gear till I reach about 100ish mph give or take 5mph either way (done a couple runs) I seen temps of about 55c is this dangerously high? As soon as iam of boost its back down to about the 25ish again thanks scott

that sounds reasonable, if you can keep them below about 40 deg your doing well!

you should be safe ish up to temps around 70 deg, maybe a bit more, but it is dependant of fuel, timing, compression etc.

That's good to know iam running std turbo pistons with std deck hight ect. With a 26cc chamber head std turbo dizzy set to std haynes spec 7deg before top dead I think. I checked it at 4k revs & it was 24deg normal unleaded fuel & intercooler obviously. Running 12psi max. Got to put me aem in yet but got an avonbar high boost needle in at the min so fuel should be ok for now

That's good to know. The metro van's intercooler generally sees mid 20's to early 30's so we must have got something right for once!

I think the boost hose blowing off at 18psi is what broke it.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

It could of been my presence that broke the thrusts?
