I'm assuming the locks on the car are the same as the mk3's over here.

there is a lever arm that comes down from the handle and clips onto a metal rod on the lock/ latch within the door. I'll see if I can find a photo to help describe but in essence, the door wont lock if this is still disconnected

Would be good if you can snap me a photo. They are mk3 doors. It's a Rover mlni.

I will try to lock from the inside when i get home.

if they lock from the inside and not the outside then this should be your problem

A Haynes manual shows an exploded view of how it all connects

I seriously doubt it!

You cant have connected the handle to the catch. Theres an arm that comes off the inside of the handle which needs to be connected to a rod on the latch

I seriously doubt it!

yes, as Paul has also noted, all you need to do is connect the lever from the handle to the lock. it should push on with a bit of force

The ones I took of my doors t'other day had C clips (not circlips, my bad).

Thanks Paul. This helped me work it out, when it cam back from the spray shop.

They must have taken the handles apart they are were assembled Wrong way around, once I worked that out, I fixed it up and worked out the catch and latches etc.

She now locks :) thanks.
