hi guys,

im not a mini owner but i am a metro van owner and know that this is the place to come for turbo a series engines. am looking to turbocharge my 1330 a series engine that i recently built.

ive owned my van for just over a year now and as it had only a 998 engine in it and as i wanted more power i decided to rebuild a 1275. the 1275 that i got needed reboring as the cylinders wernt in the best of conditions. now after getting used to the power mine produces and seeing the posibilities with an a series ive started to look into the turbo route.

i am looking at taking my van off the road next year for the conversion to take place and therfore are looking to start gathering the components and parts needed to make it all happen. im not too sure on what power output im wanting atm. ive currently got 78bhp and as a friend of mine is currently building a 100hp mini which i want to be able to keep up with him. i suppose atm id be looking for the 120bhp + really. im hoping to do this on a budget of about 1K or so.

cheers

paul

Yay another skip!

If you've got an engine that has been recently built then that could save you a fair bit of dosh.

bits that should be uprated are clutch diff and pistons, any good cast piston will be fine, its jsut the crappy non turbo ones you need to wory about.

also get an intercooler on there, 12-15 psi boost should happily see your goal, less with a good head.

IMO megajolt ignition is always worthwhile when funds allow, it can make a big difference to drivability over a dizzy,

aha thanks!

ive got an x pin diff from minisport and i got a turbo clutch from ebay.

yeah ive gotta change the ones ive got atm as theyre ae 21251 pistons. buying some new turbo pistons are the things that are going to be the pocket robber. think a good set of turbo pistons at +60 are £400+

yeah i definatly need an intercooler.

i am hoping to get a good quality modified head at some point to help.

yeah ive been thinking about megajolt system but think that they are hard to get hold of and not too cheap. think ive seen them go for £200 at some point.

I'm sure you can get cast omegas for a fair bit less than 400 notes.

that would be 340 for a set,

last time I looked cast omegas were about 250 a set, powermax's about 200, and anything forged about 4-500 a set, it seems like the gap has closed between forged and cast.

these are what i use in mine with the dish machined a bit bigger. They sell a +60 ring pack so you should be able to get them in +60 i'd have thought.

Can't believe the price of pistons now, i haven't looked for ages.

Yeah too expensive if you ask me but il have to fork out the pennies if I want to build a decent turbo engine. It won't be to bad if I buy bits at a time for the engine as I'm not in a massive fish to get it finished really
