Good evening all

a little while back i started mildly porting an ally head, i have only been using the round sandpaper wheels on a dremal and wire wheels to smoothen the finish of the ports, what i am wondering are there any tips that people have for porting and what type of grinding stones to use? What gauges do you use to measure port sizing, how do you make sure you dont hamper the air flow?

Secondly i dont know what type of valve compression tool i will need to get the valves out, wolfie kindly lent me a compresion tool but it doesnt work on the pug head which also is similar to the k head, only works on the mini heads any info would be great.

Lastly i would like to try abit of porting to an aseries head i have as well, what sort of grinding atones should i use??

Cheers paul

Somewhere around Swindon

i would be very very carefull porting the pug head you have no idea where the gallerys are and you could very easily go into one making the head scrap

Im not doing a massive porting job its more of a clean up and abit of smoothing its on a spair head so not bothered if it messes up, just abit of practice but if it goes well can always flog it on to someone

Re my thread why you should crack check before you start porting! I feel your pain.

Back on topic. I used tungston chip breaker burrs in a pillar drill with the head held in a machine vice port shape was marked from a template and port depth was measured by the drill bed.

Dont forget to dowl your inlet manifold to your head so it all lines up before you start surgery *wink*
