Has anyone done research into the Nissan engines that were "sort of" derived from the BLMC A-Series under license? I've just been reading about it on wikipedia and a few links from there and it all sounds interesting but is very vague. Could it be a new source of cheap and easy(er) crossflow and/or 16v heads? Anyone done any measuring?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I can't find anything on the search button.

I tried the same Jamie and drew a blank.

I have seen a nissan head on an A series. Had a very funny chain drive arrangement, but looked doable.

I just like the idea of the nissan micra engine and box in a mini, but be a shame to ditch the aseries.

one day boost will be mine!

Several Australian A35 club members have reported fitting Nissan(Datsun) engines and boxes into their cars and there is also one in S.Africa.
The engines and gearboxes are close copies of the A series, but Im not sure of the models concerned, which will, in any case, be rarer than the proverbial, I fancy.

I see nothing but vague similarities with the Datsun A12, which is still pushrod engine. The head is not cross flow but it does at least have the right number of ports.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Ive used the Dastun A12 pistons in some of my mini engines, the STD size is 73mm and the block has to be decked by about 6mm and 998 push-rods have to be used.

The engine is of similar design but the dimensions are totally different.

Near Paris - France

I looked into it.
There was a Datsun Coupe with a 110 and then 120 engine.

They have an alloy head and the proper number of ports but that is fpretty much all I found out.

Those are very very very rare ! (in France)
Not to mention spare engines !

Maybe Belgium is a good place to look at as it is where there were the most jap car.

In my book it is a lot of trouble for an engine which is just a little better than the A-series.
