well had a sort off good day at unlce rays rolling road, after a bit of tinkering managed 112bhp at the flywheel on 6.5 psi. but couldnt bleed of any more air due a slight bent waste gate arm so i wedged a thick washer behind it and she was ok but ray had a slight mishap with the bleed valve and she wanged round to 10 psi bloody dam quick and looking at the graph if she would have kept going futher up the rev range i estimaTED ABOUT 135 BHP AT THE FLYWHEEL.

OH AND AFTER THE MAD RUN WE COULDNT GET ANY BOOST AT ALL DUE TO THE WASTE GATE NOT CLOSING PROPERLY WHICH WAS PUZLING BUT AFTER A FEW FRANTIC MINUTES FINDING THE PROBLEM IT WAS THE THICK WASHER NOT LETING THE ACTUATOR SITING SQUARE SO SHE WOULDNT CLOSE PROPERLY.

THE AMAZING BIUT WAS RAY HAD HIS DET HEAD PHONES ON AND AT 10 PSI DIDNT GET A SINGLE INCKLING OF ANY DETONATION AT ALL AND THATS WITH A 9.8 CR WITH 26 DEG FIXED ADVANCE.

SO THE SUMARY IS IVE GOT TO CUT DOWN THE ACUATOR AND RAY RECON THEY IS SOME MORE ADVANCE TO COME, PLUS ALSO MY BIGER BOOST HEAD IS STILL TO COME AS WELL.
ITS A BIT LIKE F1 RACING THIS ( MORE BITS TO COME).

BUT GOES TO SHOW YOU CAN RUN HIGHER THAN WHAT WE ALL THOUGHT CR WISE WITH OUT DET AS LONG AS SHE IS ALL SET UP PROPERLY, I WONDER HOW MUCH BOOST A 9.8CR WOULD TAKE NOW THERES A QUESTION.*tongue*

yes mate good show:) more to come to cool!
That's interesting about The boost and C/R, there is so much pub talk about what you need and should have, when you don't always!

well it does back off to 24 deg advance when it gets toabout 4500 rpm due to a slight bit of play in the dizzy bearings, the advanced is totaly fixed so theres no advance or retard at all.

Nice 1 m8, some very interesting points points there. I bet there is bugger all turbo lag!!!!!!!!And yes how much boost can you run with that compression, very impressive.

So people,

do you know what is the most psi that has been run on an intercooled engine running STANDARD C/R??? as knowing that we could work out a nice C/R for Hoggy!

Cheers

MW
I can't help as i've never run standard c/r:(

the only lag i get is when i boot it through the gears and get a little between gear changes, but im slowly adjusting the dump valve to stop some of this but still keep some gary boy hisss.

it is interesting to now what cr to run but i have already done 2 chambers of my new head so will have to have a measure when done and go from there.

but rays det cans are f@cking useful for carring out this function as i was bloody suprised when she ran 9-10 psi and he said there was apsolutly no det what so ever, and these cans would pick it up in a split second.

so indeed are we all running to low a cr than what we actually need, because with this device you could keep cranking up the boost until you just get some det which would give a ball park fiquer then back the ign off a couplke of deg then reduce your max boost buy a few psi and that should give you your max psi ( in theory any way)

what do you all recon.

think about it you would get less lag and better econamy if you could raise the cr to a level which would still give you the power required , but with out waisting boost filling a gap which does need to filled except with some metal left in the head.

Its not good to back off the timing as a compensation thou...

You loose power and driveability.

Knocking the boost back to the point before det is good thou.

Of course fully mapped ignition is the key... you only back it off where you need to *happy*

Ray likes to be a little conservative when setting the car up for extra safety (staying well clear of detonation), he does the same on mine.
