Well, I got the car back from the paint shop on Friday night ready to wiz down to Castle Combe. I drove it home on Friday night and it was running great. Put it in the garage last night all fine. All I did was give the engine a wipe over as it was full of dust.

I came to the car in the early hours this morning and the bugger wouldn't start. I pulled the plugs leads off and made sure that they are on in the correct order. ( As I had cleaned them last night).

I pulled the carb and made sure it was clean so no dust and bits from the paint job.

I have checked the megajolt has power

I have checked the coil has power.

I noticed that the battery was at just over 12V so I charged it up today as I left it on when I was cleaning the car so the interior light would have been on.

The car turns over and when the engine catches the starter dis-engages like its going to start but it doesn't..

My thinking it to check the spark next, incase the coil has packed up?

Not sure where to start, and a bit pissed that I missed some track action today...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

first place i'd have started would be as you say check for a spark before any of that other stuff and maybe the mj power too but as you've already done that.

i'm not sure but if you dont have a spark am i right in thinking it could be the coil or edis :s not sure how you'd test em. maybe also check your eaths as mine was weird like that and was due to a bad earth even thought he MJ had power.

How about something like the trigger wheel has moved? Is sounds like it's trying to fire, but it's a bit advanced?

Thanks guys going to nip out into the garage and try a couple of things..

So far I have plugged in some of those laser spark plug tester light things as I'm on my own and they are all lighting up as I turn the car over.

I surpose its doesnt show the plug actually sparking?

I'm going to plug the laptop in and check the map......

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Well did an hour on it. I can't find the fault.
The map looks good.
I tried without the mj connected so in limp mode
I did a compression test as I found Mayo in the oil filler and it did in order of cylinders 1 to 4
9-9-9.5-9.5 all in bar

So god only knows why it ran and then won't run 12 hours later..........

Next stop was to try some new plugs.

Is there a coil test? To make sure its giving enough bang?

The spark indicator things only work when there is a spark, they don't light when there isn't a spark.

If you've got sparks, its one of two things. No fuel or as previously suggested, the trigger has moved.

Try some easy start, or even just pouring a little fuel into the carb

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

The easiest way to fix it would be to dump the megajolt and carb and put EFi on it *wink*

Well, I chucked some new plugs in and gave the fuse box a clean as it was full of dust and it fired up first time...

If I get five mins at the weekend I will chuck the old plugs in and see if it starts to check which one it was.

I have had this before. I started the car drove and it onto the trailer. When I came to take it off it wouldn't start.

The plugs had got wet and never recovered.

I wouldn't bother putting the plugs back in, just put them in the bin.

Wil, Agreed I just wanted to be sure it was that. As i fiddled in the fuse box too. I have never had this before but then the car has been at the paint shop for the last 8 weeks and the filter was in a bad state so it was probably running rich on the way home.

Andy I tried the Wife on the EFI idea as a fix, but she wouldn't buy it after paying out to get the car painted.... boooooo

My super charged engine used to eat plugs, i'd cover 1000 miles and need a new set. couldn't find the reason why it used to happen. It was megajolt 3 and the plugs used to look fine with a brownish tint to them. It developed a misfire and the only thing that would sort it would be new plugs. Always fitted NGK 7's

Interstingly mine used to have the same issues. I wne tdown the same route as you however I found earthing the trigger wheel sensor wire sheilding at both ends (EDIS and Trigger wheel end) stopped this problem. This was a few years ago now.
