Has it actually sold does anyone know?

If Feebs is watching, I know it sounds like everyone is giving you stick, but after how gutted you were after you sold it last time it just doesn't seem a logical move to sell it again.

But I suppose you have to do with your money and cars what you think is best at the time, I bet everyone on here has at one time or another bought a car or sold one and wished they hadn't.

So good luck with whatever you get I hope you enjoy it.

Hi guys sorry i havent been on, Mike (from this forum) is still fixing my hard drive :)

Yeah minis gone unfortunately, but it did have problems with it. I didnt sort the rust the other month and it developed! Alo there were other problems which i can explain on pm.

Ive bought a MK1 golf and picking it up saturday, going to go euro look with it.

I went to see a couple of shells so far, going to get a solid one this time to start on, something that will be safe from reaccuring rust. Luckily the red one is off to usa for nicer weather, and also the guy knows what it is like, so im happy at £2800.

Ive been in touch with council, im going to get a dedicated lockup. Im banned from parents garage now so i need to find somewhere warm to get a mini project that i can tinker with and make perfect (bodge free). Daily driver minis are a big pain, and its so heart braking seeing the effects on one using it through winter.

As for the new mini, think this ones going to be a 998 turbo, im interested in using pot_dans low compression turbo cammed 998 engine (about 2000 miles on it) and getting that slapped in. Im glad to get rid of the red one this time, its hard living between 3 houses (girlfriends/mums/dads) and also planning uni when i dont get no time to do portfolio work because its always needing fixing!

i spend most of my time catching the bus to poxy work, which is not good as i worked in a screened office at the social, so when i go home i end up sitting with my customers on the bus !

MK 1 Golfs do not like being used over winter either. Remember they are also old cars with basic rust protection, if anything they can also rot badly. The salt on roads will play up havoc with a Mk1 Golf as well, so make sure you wash the salt off it often over the winter (and under the arches is just as important as the paintwork) and keep it waxed over winter if ever there is a clear dry day to do it.

I'm sure you know of the Mk1's weak points, fuel filler pipe, around fuel cap, rear arches, bits and bobs on sills etc.

Wise words, that's why I bought a Mk II golf instead.

Mines a good solid car that only needs new brakes, new exhaust, new clutch cable and a new gearstick thingy cos selecting 1st or reverse is a bit of a lottery. Good job the reverse lights don't work :)

Ooooh whats that? About the rust?

could do with some places to check if thats ok?
How about when looking underneath what to look for specifically? Ill have a look on google see what i can find in forums too. Cheers tom.

I know what you mean about busses home, halfords is in a retail park, a bit away from the town centre, and you have to walk through a large asian populated area called Lawcolme lane. Not being racist at all here i have asian mates at work, but there are alot of asian chav gangs down on that road that shout abuse at you for walking through

I can't tell you any more specifics than I mentioned before cos I don't know.

What I do know is that a friend of mine is well into Mk1 Golfs, has had three, and each one has needed a serious amount of welded repairs and a full respray to make it any good, e.g. rear arch panels, front lower panel, repairs to sills, rear panel and boot floor, tailgates nearly ALWAYS go rusty on Mk 1 and 2 golfs and are hard to source good ones. Fuel filler pipe is a well known weak point as well.

Luckily my mate enjoys the restoration part of it more than driving the finished car (weird I know) so he quite likes doing them up and painting them himself. But if you are after something as a daily car that won't need touching I would seriously consider a Mk2 version instead.
