After my misfire at the weekend it seems the head gasket failure took more than the gasket.

Rather than scrap it I thought I might get it welded and keep it as stock or sell it.

Any suggestions on decent welders?

Christ almighty. Ive done that on Aluminium before, but never cast iron !!!

Usually with aluminium it is massive detonation that plasmas holes through things. Or severe ignition related problem ( usually triggering so timing is uncontrolled )

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

It could have been, tbh I had lost a little water on my way to the track so that could have been the start of the gasket failure (read it defiantly was) but as I have a new engine in my garage i thought I might as well have some fun! On the 5th lap coming on to the home straight I changed from third to forth flat out and it was the misfire from hell!!! The engine was warm at the time as well... The engine block is the same as above, I'll put it down to experience.

It runs mega jolt so timing shouldn't have been the cause

If you have it welded it will more likely start to crack next to the weld due to the different expansion rates of the materials.

Is there enough cc's / enough meat left below the damage to skim it and sell as a N/A head? You could then use the cash to help fund a TurboPhil / Benross jobbie?

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Hmmm that's a pain John. I'll measure it tonight and see if it can be skimmed...

I have an med FIS head right now, I'll see how that performs when it's setup oneeye. If it's not that great I'll sell it and the 12g295 to fund a better one!

Measure the thickness of the base around the oil and waterways as there may not be enough metal to skim the head.

If there is enough metal to skim it, the chambers may be too small for a flat top piston but it may work with dished pistons

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

Sorry! But that head is goosed SCRAP! the block also if it has that amount of gouge in maybe some one can use the block for a short motor build ? ............ you say .... It runs mega jolt so timing shouldn't have been the cause,

it will have been incorrect settings and too much boost fueling, lean for the compression you are runnning simple as ......... with your ne engine you need to correct the above as for sure it will happen again........
