Hi guys, looking at knocking myself up a rear disk set up, KAD stuff looks ace and that but thinking with the disk and hub arangment from force along with a motorbike calliper should be sufficient.

I know technicaly i would need a calliper with a handbrake operation but its not of my concern. my braking system is in 2 halfs with my KAD bias box, if i broke all my lines thing have gone wrong anyway

My question is, does anyone know of any suitable bike callipers... alot of the front callipers from bikes iv seen have the mounting points not perpendicular to the pistons (if you understand what i mean there)
With how i can imagin me designing the calliper carriers I think it would be more stable if they were on the same plain.
Just curious what people have used, from my searches i couldnt seem to find may pics, guess its all the secret TM weight savings.

Hi
I used Ducati 916 £50 each when I did it but now more like £125, (unfortunately they aren't handed, so fiddley to bleed or you re locate bleed nipple, which there is the facility to do). I'm sure there are loads that are suitable it's just lookin. Better of lookin at rears.

Yamaha do a large city commuter scooter step through thing, it appeared to have a cable actuation to the rear caliper as well as a hydraulic line, I spotted these when wandering around Barcelona last year, more investigation would be needed but they looked just the ticket.

That the callipers arent sided wont matter too much, car uses braded lines through out so easy enough to throw a chunk of wood between the pads and flip them upside down to bleed

gavin, were these the callipers you were on about?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUCATI-BREMBO-FR...=item19c89ecc5e
thats the mounting style i was trying to avoid, that there not on the same plain as the pistons just, for some reason, i dont prefer if im trying to mount them onto my arms.

Thanks aswell Tom Ill have a ganders about.

Iv also heard mention about Quad callipers. Id just trawl through ebay but im not 100% sure on sizing, even small 4 pots seem excessive on the back of a mini, but they do look particualy swanky!

As I have a quad with one of those weird combo callipers on the back I'll post up some measurements at the weekend..

Im not fussed about the handbrake, although there cheaper than i thought they would be, the non handbrakes ones surely cheaper still!
Cars fitted with hydraulic handbrake with a lock so there i can hold the car when need be. only being its not a completly seperate system, it is however seperate from the front system so in my eyes, sufficient... just obviously not in MOT terms

Well, for reference in case you do go down that route, the one on my quad is about £90 new (p/n 31360-A12-000 I think), they are used on a few different manufacturers so it might be possible to get 2nd hand ones.. never tried.

What about pad material on the quad calipers? is it up to the job of the heaver car and the faster speed

its certainly something to consider anyway, If i didnt already have my lockable hydro HB id be using a cable system. And if anyone searches the site in the future it might give a few ideas.
Just for reference im hoping to make my own rear arms so will be able to weld mounts onto the arms, be it lug mounted or radial mounts...
Of course, the way things are going this wont be happening for a while seeing as i havent mustered effort to weld in the rear 1/4's. Doesnt hurt to research though, need to get the cash in order

Quad 180kg, me another 110kg, pillion?kg on a single caliper. It goes to over 120mph due to the stupid engine I've put in it. Never fails to work. The front ones get F hot and fade (about 4" disks!) but the back saves me! It is probably going to be on the limit with 2 on the back of a mini, I wouldn't use it for racing.
