Whilst my cars being rebuilt, i wanna change the gaskets on my 1275, to stop the bloody oil leaks. The only thing i dont really need to change is the head gasket so its stopping on. Whilst im doing that, i have two MG metro cams lying around, one of the later ones with the higher exhaust duration, of which many people use, and the earlier one where the intake and exhaust durations are the same, but its in slightly better condition.

Which would be best for turbo use? and if it really doesnt matter, then ill stick the later mg one in the 1275 now, and will i be any better off for it? im guessing i wont need a rolling road session for this either as im not touching the fuelling aspect of things.

Cheers.

later one would be better,

but if you change it, it will alter your fueling slightly. anything you change in an engine will always have some sort of affect

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

i would go for the N/A MG cam with the slightley extended exhaust duration, especially if you have the larger inlet valve on the head,...................... just as you would fit the 4th sparkpug take it to the rollers its that noticable after its set correctley !!!!!!

change your gaskets but use also on them both sides winns RTV black silicon dont over egg it but make sure you dont leave any gaps.

all gaskets except the head and manifold gasket.

while your at it replace all the seals as well

Ive already got a gearbox oil seal cos that drips oil everywhere, and i have the remains of a gasket kit ill use and buy what's missing, so ive got all bases covered i think! Might just chuck the early mg cam in and new valve springs, mayaswell while im there.

You'll need new followers if you change the cam.

How are you going to change the cam and valve springs without removing the head?

Good point, wasn't overly thinking about it too much, i believe it can be done without taking the head off, but for what effort its going to involve ill take the head off, not like a head gasket is expensive. Id rather spend a few quid on it now and have a solid reliable engine to fall back on when the turbo lump is eventually in, im building it with reliability in mind, but i think we all know its going to be in and out a few times before the creases have been ironed out lol.

dont forget to use that sealent on the halfmoon seal between the engine and gearbox ........apply bothsides of the seal...... on some miss mached blocks and gearboxes these are barstuards to seal if attension is not applied in that area *wink* *wink*

+1 on the black rtv it certainly stopped my leaks on new gaskets and seal. Just change the head gasket and the followers while your in there, also inspect all your bearings and oil pump. It is simple enough to change the cam with the engine built, but it would much trickier to do the valve springs *happy*
