Hi

I've just got myself a 37000 mile metro turbo which the last owner removed the engine to change the clutch.

Anyway I thought I would change the headgasket while the engine was out.

One of the bores (number 1, not that it matters) has quite a bit of pitting on it. It looks like it's got wet and started to rust. It looks bad but you can only just barely feel it with your finger nail.

Will the engine need a rebore?

I have pics but my phone will not let me post them. I will post them when I get home.

leeds/wakefield.

Were you intending on rebuilding or putting the head back on and run as is, what are you using the car for,

The idea was to just do a headgasket and then run the metro with the standard engine.

I want to keep the car but wasn't really looking to rebuild the engine but don't really want to refit it if it will cause problems.

leeds/wakefield.

In that case bung the head back on anf see how it goes, it'll only go one way or the other,

Give it a pop. I would.

Me too - because the pits are very localised, oil can't get pumped past the rings like it does with vertical scores.

Thanks for the comments.

I think I will put it in and see how it goes.

I'm not looking for loads of power I just don't want it to smoke.

Fingers crossed it will be fine.
