been having a think. i'm gonna take the supercharger off my motor and turbo it instead. been wanting to get it running again to no avail, so, i am gonna just put a good turbo set up on it, so i can at least drive the car after 2 years out of use. i dont really know a lot about the turbo set ups, so.....pointers anyone??? my current engine spec is:-

1330cc
11cc dished cast omega pistons on balanced rods
swiftune sw5 cam.
arp's throughout
1.5 rockers
morspeed head with race valves and isky springs
turbo oil pump
wedged crank
decent centre strap
minispares 4 pin diff
3.44 cwp
s/c drops
s/c box
lightened flywheel
fast road clutch
canems ignition ecu
maniflow 2" exhaust (with a soon to be redundant stage 2 manifold)

thats off the top of my head at the mo.

not sure which turbo to use or intercooler or not. i'm gonna go for a mirage manifold so i dont have to chop the bulkhead.

balls to the blower!!!

Yay! You've seen the light!

I believe Mirage do GT17 manifolds now. You would just need to fasion a DP for it. *smiley*

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

wise man, *wink* they are a little temprimental in the A series ............and need constant tinkering with at best .......especially if its not been set up correctley in the first instant and you have a miss mash of not the right parts,

think posative make a plan of attack and do it........ sweep it under the carpet and go forward... *Yes*

whats the difference between the metro, r5 gtt and the saab turbo's? what sort of boost can be run with them?

Three very different turbos...

The r5gtt is a Garrett t2 or ai reaserch m10. A fast spooling turbo, capable of about 170bhp. Adds heat to the intake after that.

The metro is a Garrett t3, the thorn in the mg metro turbo's side. Standard 1275 suffer from lag a plenty with this unit, large displacement will spool the turbo better but it's old not efficient and huge! Capable of 200bhp+

The Saab is a Garrett gt1752, the most modern turbo, smaller than the t3. Flows lot of air and is very efficient. Capable of (so far) 300bhp with nitros

But the bhp attainable is entirely related on engine spec. The cylinder head being themost imporant along with cam.

But if your aiming for the big bhp's then you needto think carefully about gearbox longevity....

Ultimately the gt17 is the better unit.

The Garrett t3, Standard 1275 with a stock ish cam and the .25 housing ,will be fine for lag . its over 70 % efficient up to 170 bhp ,and will go on to 200 odd max at 23 at 65% eff.

The Garrett gt1752, Capable of 247 hp so far ,max of around 260 bhp .not been used with n2o.


personally if i had a t3 and a stock ish cam ,,i'd use it ,with the right parts its a very good turbo .it lacks in transient response , but gains in momentum keeping the wheels turning ,so you get a bigger kick on each gear change .

Yeah I strangely like the T3. I've got one on my clubby with 8.1:1 compression. Off the line it's pulls "ok" but isn't exactly quick. However when 4k arrives the boost winds up very quickly (if anyone got a video of me at pod you will see how flat it is then takes off towards the end of first gear).

However change into 2nd around 5700rpm and keep it planted and the boost is instantly there along with the nice little kick you talk about *smiley*

Still it won't stop me changing to a T2/GT17 at some point and upping the CR to about 8.7:1

i see. the torque i got from my blower set up when it was running a single hif was awesome so i would really want something with least lag as possible. not really wanting to go mega fast. mine seemed to top out at 86mph but got there fecking quick

If you want something that fits easy with little lag etc. Then a mirage manifold and DP with r5 t2 would be a good option.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

plus i ran 17psi boost with the blower i had so the box and head are more than up to it. (so far!)

balls to the blower!!!
