justa quick question on what people think are the best quick release steering wheel bosses. ive used a hex one before in my race mini and it seemed fine tiny bit of free play and had to make a braket to make it fir my steering wheel. need one to fit a mountney new style steering wheel.

comments and help would be great

I cannot fault he original RAID Snap Off boss kit other than the lock can be a PITA sometimes, but that could removed. The quality is great and there is absolutely zero slack!! but qulity costs *wink* http://www.minispares-online.co.uk/?cat_id...29&prod_id=2289

One thing I was not happy with was the steering wheel bosses available for the Mini 'Sport' steering wheels, was that they were too tall, and quality also poor. To overcome this I had a Mountney classic boss machined down, made an adapter in ally and screwed all three parts together Boss, adapter, snap off boss, and now the whoile lot is the same hight as a standard boss on its own *happy* You would be hard pushed to know that there was a snapoff boss fitted

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Yer I've looked at that one but not to keen on faffin about with keys tho. I like the look of some of the universal splined ones on eBay and just welding the boss on

The lock can be removed, as I suggested.

The theory of the lock is to stop some low life running off with your expensive steering wheel when you have your eye turned while at the track. It only hinders its removal. Refitting, it just clips on.

I know you don't like the price, I never either. I'd like to think the price difference and the extra effort means it is less likely to fail. I have a flashback to Minis Vs Beatles 2007 where a lad launched off the line only for the column to work free of the rack, and the car promptly and instantly veared into the central barrier. same thing could happen if your wheel comes free.

I ended up having my steering column machine reamed out and had a weld on boss pegged though the column with some good quality pins.

I've got an omp wheel and I got the boss and adaptor from deemon tweeks. I found the bolt on boss set the wheel too close to me.

That's wat I had in my race one a weld on one and it left the steering wheel in a gd place. Also goin to look at places down here that will do roll cage mods that will allow me to have to steering wheel in a better place I.e closer and flatter to me

I still want one but using the mini for a bit of rallying where it will get a lot of abuse I wasn't sure if any of the QR bosses would keep tight or just end up with loads of slack after a little while and be horrible to use and potentially dangerous! If it were a track car I wouldn't worry so much, but I think rallying tests every part to the max...

The one I used was on a grass track car which got some abuse and definatly not the smoothest surface snapped many wheel studs and the boss I used never got slack apart from the very very very tiny bit to begin with
