How do folks,

I've got an MED management pulley with combined trigger wheel. I'm wondering if someone could help me figure out which tooth I need to remove on the trigger wheel... which one do I count 9 teeth from number 1 or number 2?

Any ideas?

p.s. the pulley isn't pushed all the way on yet so hence why it doesn't line up vertically

My missing tooth (not MED pulley) is exactly in line with the keyway on the crank. I believe this is at TDC.

If one of the teeth doesn't exactly line up then just go for the closest one, and adjust the compensation on the ignition controller.

For MJ you need to remove the tooth 90 degrees before TDC.

You need to get the engine to exactly TDC and see which one lines up with the hole. If it's between two teeth, remove the one that is 9 tooth from the top one. You will need to set the offset in the software as the sensor is of.

Hmmm thats got me thinking now. Im sure mine is machined inline with the keyway, but the sensor is at 90 degree from TDC. *Confused*

Not sure about that. The missing tooth has to be 90 degrees clockwise from the pickup, regardless of where it's mounted, with the engine set at TDC. On my car the pickup is at 9 o'clock, so the missing tooth is at 12 o'clock with the engine at TDC.

Set the engine to TDC. Turn the engine 90 degrees counter clockwise. remove the tooth that the sensor is now pointing at. If it sits between two teeth, remove the 'upper' one of the two, since a VR sensor works on the falling edge of the tooth, and then fine tune using a strobe and the offset in Megajolt.

To work out that you have turned the engine counter clockwise by 90 degrees, set up a simple pointer that points to the middle of one of the teeth, and then count 9 teeth as they pass the pointer as you turn the engine counter clockwise.

The way I did mine, find tdc, and mark it, count 9teeth and remove it, my sensor is at 8oclock and the missing tooth at 11oclick.

Sorry guys, forgot to say... the engine is in TDC in that photo, so I know to count 9 teeth and then remove the tenth. I was just wondering which one I count from?

If the engine is at TDC you need to remove the tooth that is at 12 O clock or if in between 2 teeth, remove the one just past 12 O clock.

The missing tooth needs to pass the sensor at 90 degree BTDC.

Counting 9 teeth then removing the tenth is 100 degrees, not 90. Each tooth is worth 10 degrees

Degrees from tooth 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90
Tooth number 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 < this is the tooth you want to remove


Its 90 degrees, its hardly difficult to see where it needs to be, especially if you use a set square or protractor.

Sorry sprocket, message received and understood. I understand that bit now. What I was not sure of is which tooth to count from as in the photo the middle of where the sensor goes through is in a gap and not a tooth.
