The wife car has developed a tapping noise on deceleration which is constant to the speed of the car - the faster the car is going the faster the tapping noise is

If you press on the clutch, the noise is still there, but not as loud

It appears to go when you accelerate, but starts again when you take your foot off the accelerator

I was thinking about a CV joint - namely the inner one - but I'm unsure if it could be this, as I would have thought that it would be there on deceleration and acceleration

Has anybody got any ideas?

inner cv will make the engine vibrate like mad under hard acceleration, outer CV will click under aceleration at certain steering angles.

most likely wear in an engine mount or lower arm bush causing something to hit something on deceleration. but as always near impossible to diagnose something like this over the internet!

p.s. check your wheel nuts.

Thanks Guys

Haven't had a chance to look at it yet as the garage has both my Minis on stands and it's bucketing down outside

Just didn't fancy lying in a pool of water in the dark

The only way I can describe the sound is it is like the piece of card I used to put in to the spokes of my bike when I was a kid

Hope it's dry tomorrow when I get home from work, so that I can have a look
