Ive looked in the search section and havent really found any direct comparison between these two turbos and was just wondering if some of you guys that have had experience with these turbos could advise me which one i should choose. as i havent worked on or had a turbo before im not too sure wether i should jump into using the better gt17 (which seems to be harder to install and more expensive) or use the t3.

as i am looking to get around 120-150hp (for now) *tongue* would a t3 be suitable or would it be worth while getting the gt17.

the thing is i dont want to put loads of money into turning my van into a t3 turbo and then be dissapointed with the results and going for a gt17 in the future.
:$
cheers guys

You won't be disappointed with the T3.

I would go for one to make a simple install, then upgrade when you feel the need.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

It's personal preference mate, the t3 will make the power no probs, but builds boost late and it all comes in one big lump, the gt17 comes in earlier and builds boost slower.

thanks dude, i knew the gt17 came in a bit quicker bu didn't realise it was a more progressive turbo... would the 360deg bearing make the t3 boost a bit earlier?

with the t3 on my old set up i used to get reach a couple of psi at about 3,250rpm, then used to give you a big kick in the bollocks at somewhere around 4k, with a 1330 it will help it to spool a little easier.

Your T3 figures match that of my old T3, but the GT17 I have now starts to show boost at about 1800, is at about 8psi at 2500 and on full boost by 3500 - makes the car much nicer to drive IMO

(I do miss the big kick the T3 gave at 4000 though)

For some reason I do like the idea of getting the boost all in one go *hehe!*

I quite like the t3 too, the face of the passenger at 18psi is histerical.

yeah i cant wait for that *happy*

i was also thinking about my bore size. having a larger than normal bore at 1330 (+60) will i need to take anything more into account when rebuilding the engine

only that you can get the compression ratio down, what dish is in the pistons?

In my experiance having a larger bore (in my case 040) actually increased the compression ratio, youll need to keep an eye on that and lower it or you may end up only beng able to run a tiny amount of boost - in which case whats the point?

not too sure on the dish of the pistons yet as havent got them. theyr omega so maybe 10cc. would of thought id be able to get the dish enlarged to reduce the compression ratio down and then enlarging the chambers on the head

yeah if i cant run a considerable amount of boost then theyr wouldnt be any point

on my next build i will be going for 1310 possibly, just like the extra torque from the larger cc, MED head with 30cc chambers shouldnt be too bad.
