Tax, insurance, mot No doubt if plod was anal enough then they would do him for various small infringements I'm sure. when I got pulled in the mini a few years ago, I made damn sure I approached the copper so he didn't see inside to the explosion of dash wiring and jagged edges as I was still working on it. Slightly off topic but think its worthwhile mentioning it after recent scaremongering, I Googled IVA and found these quotes in a VOSA document explaining IVA requirements http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/Transport_f...ide_V4_0611.pdf
Amateur built - M1 , N1 only (class A)
(1) A vehicle is an amateur built vehicle if : (a) the vehicle was : (i) constructed or assembled, or (ii) having previously been registered under the 1994 Act, structurally modified for the personal use of a person R who is a relevant individual, and (b) the whole, or a substantial part, of the construction, assembly or modification was carried out : (i) by R, or (ii) by one or more relevant individuals acting on behalf of, and under the direction of, R, or (iii) by R and one or more relevant individuals acting on behalf of, and under the direction of, R. (2) For the purposes of this paragraph, a relevant individual in relation to a motor vehicle is an individual who does not, at any time during the period when the construction or assembly of the vehicle is being carried out, carry on a business in the course of which motor vehicles are normally constructed, assembled or modified. Basic IVA is only applicable to the following classes of vehicles. Please refer to Annex 2 on page 49 for definitions of these vehicles (excluding left hand drive) :
1. Personal imports 2. Amateur built vehicles (kit cars) 3. Rebuilt vehicles 4. Very low volume production vehicles 5. Ambulances (ambulances are only ‘M’ category) 6. Motor caravans (motor caravans are only ‘M’ category) 7. Hearses (hearses are only ‘M’ category) 8. Armoured vehicles (armoured vehicles can be ‘M’ or ‘N’ categories) 9. Left hand drive vehicles 10. A vehicle manufactured using parts of a registered vehicle 1.9 When does IVA not apply?
Old vehicles (i.e. passenger cars and light goods vehicles over 10 years old and large goods vehicles over 25 years old). IVA does not apply In all cases, IVA (whether Basic or Normal) is only required for passenger cars and light goods vehicles less than 10 years old, which require first licensing and registration in the United Kingdom
I think most of us need to be more concerned about the construction and use act as to whether your fat wheels are tucked far enough under the arches
All that said, Can anybody explain what the recent Mini Mag articles about the IVA are all about? Other than confusion on everyones part and more scaremongering? Edited by Sprocket on 23rd Oct, 2011. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

That's the one Paul. I'm glad i just do the photos and don't get involved in the text side of things, TBH If a police man wanted to, he could pull up any of our cars if he wanted to, as i believe just changeing the exhaust on a car even when it passes the mot isn't legal, So i was told once. :) Will post some pics up soon, got to find out if i can as we were also there with teh 5th gear guys, so don't want to post pics i shouldn't lol :o It'll be ok. We won't tell them... Post em up, we'll keep it a secret....! lol |
