thought i would take off my supercharger set up last night in prep for the turbo conversion. realise no that running a supercharger on a suck through basis might not be a good idea. the teflon coating on the rotors has peeled off and scored the inside casing. i think its due to the rotors tolerance being so close and trying to squeeze fuel between them. might be something for people to consider when building a suck through set up.

It has some benefits that appeals to me

I think it looks trick
£10 methanol injektion
no lag
simplicity of installation
take less space
weights less

Another benifit of suck through is the shit idle, it breaking every 10 miles, carb icing, belt slip and generally shit build quality. Take it from me (I stupidly wasted £3k on a suck setup) they are a total waste of money...

I really cannot see why anyone would ever want a suck through setup in this day and age. Unless it was purely for a specific show car or something

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Vegard, are you drilling a hole around the maze / piston ring seal behind the compressor wheel?

and can you tell me how too build a good suck through please

Interesting vegard, are you not using a dump/recirc valve on that? Or is there a heat issue there?
Or are you purely running low boost?

This is infact a suck through turbo from a R5GTT.

Low boost only.

I think it's spelled trout, not throught.

What boost was it running. I would guess over 12psi. Been running my sc12 since 2007 and the rotors are still great. It was reported on the sc12 anything over 14 and the coating goes bye bye.

Very happy with my setup

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

They are called R5 Alpine Turbo in France and the 1,4 engine with the fancy head did 110 HP with 0,4 bar boost IIRC.

The GT Turbo naming is for the Supercinq (transverse engine) instead of the Renault 5 (longitudinal engine with the gearbox in front).
They got the same output (using a single 32 mm carb !) in phase 1 and 120 in phase 2 (water coooled turbo)

Suck through advantage is you don't need an intercooler, it is cheap to build and set up and the packaging is much neater.
It is probably quite limited in the end, depends what you are looking for, really.

Suck through and turbo prevent the use of diesel turbos as they don't have the "gasket" between exhaust and inlet so the engine will consume oil on idle

I have been under the impression that Eaton superchargers aren't all up for suck through due to the fuel damaging the teflon, seals etc- but people have been telling me I'm wrong for ages (not on TM forum though). Guess I wasn't!

p.s. sorry about the problem though!
When using a proper blower like a x-71 GMC, suck though works just fine, but the AFB carbs do just pour fuel straight through so there's not much tech to it!
