Be warned!
I bought a new one made in china and it is stuck on my diff. Chatting with jim this week and it appears to be a secret but known problem.

Like most mini parts nowadays, I'd be looking to find a good secondhand one

I had a right bastard of a time getting a pair of new pot joints off the diff output shafts. Ended up taking the whole diff off the gearbox in one and taking it to a bloke with a gurt big vice, mounted on an uber heavy steel bench then eased them off with a big fucking hammer. The spring clips broke in the process and the joints rendered useless. All that extra trouble to save a few pennies? and note, It was not me saving the pennies!

It's hard to say these days, as pretty much everything seems to be sub standard, but you won't go far wrong with new old stock, if you can find it. Thats why I buy it up when I can *happy*

If there is any doub't, I'd always take a punt with Minispares, as you do at least get an honest description in most of the cases.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I THINK the metro cv's are smaller. Im sure ive had to swap some over before because my box had some on that were too small.

There were some that had smaller, err.. ball areas. These will be like a chipolata in a wizard's sleeve...

I think this was only on a few of the 998's so you probably be ok but I'm not entirely sure

The metal parts of the metro ones are essentially the same - I used the ones from my Metro donor engine without any problem - but as you can see in the eBay photo, the boot arrangement is completely different and has to be removed as it doesn't fit on a Mini drive shaft. The Mini boot did fit in my case but the locating groove for it was slightly different IIRC.

Personally I would avoid a remanufactured one - if it has genuinely been remanufactured, the grooves will have been reground and larger balls fitted - this makes for a whole load of non interchangeable parts and the inner section is weaker.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

I also had these problems with an inner CV not coming off due to the circlip sticking. I seem to remember knocking out the little metal centre disk in the pot and use a 3 legged puller though in the end?
