Hi

I am looking for a new turbo to mount on my 998cc engine and came across this garrett gt1752 unit. I know the center section or bearing housing on some turbos can be adjusted (called multi position type) so that the housings of the turbo can be fitted perfectly behind the mini engine.

However I do not know if this feature comes with all turbos of the gt17 family, or how you can tell if it is included.
I got the turbo I want below, could you tell me if it's that multi position type?

Thanks a lot

That will rotate OK. Just release the compressor and turbine housing securing bolts and it should turn.

However, that picture is a cheap copy of a GT1752 and is best avoided. If it doesn't say Garrett on the castings then leave for someone else.

Isn't the 17 a bit big for Anything but a track biased 998?

Paul S would the following turbo be an original one?

By the way do you happen to know what the difference between the gt1752 and the gt1752s models is?

The proper Garrett one has 'Garrett' cast into the compressor housing as per your second link.

What are you intending on using the car for? Will H has reported that the GT17 is a bit big for a road going 998.

It will be OK, just need big balls to drive it :)

Don't worry guys. I got big balls and I don't expect the Mini to drive like a 2011 VW Polo, so everything is fine. Moreover I am not the only one here who's mounting a GT17 on a 998, right?

Im sure the gt17 also has a small dowel that needs to be pulled out to allow the housing to rotate?

Dont remember pulling a dowel to rotate either hot or cold side? there might be differences between units though. Anyone know torque settings? cant exactly get a torque wrench in there though

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

Ah and mine! lol

Thats explains it then. Must be the same dowel that holds the flux capacitor in place. :)

CR# - I wouldn't worry about a torque setting as long as they are reasonably tight. Its more important to make sure the housing is being pulled down squarely/evenly.
