just wondering if anyone knows anything about wether there is a limit on the amount of cars you can have registered in a certain period of time?

just that i've been buying and selling a few cars recently and they have all been in my name, just that someone said to me that the DVLA start questioning why after a certain time?

any help would be great!

Hmm, I have also heard this rumour but as yet nothing to substantiate it.

What I do where possible is to not register the car in my name, e.g. get the complete log book off the old owner and then when I sell the car just register it straight to the new owner. Probably not what you are supposed to do, but saves putting an extra keeper on the tally and also if you turn the car around quickly within a week or a couple of weeks, you don't get the logbook back in time to give to the new buyer, hence making it difficult to sell.

yeah thats the way i like to do it, but a lot of people dont like giving you the whole log book with it still in their name! fair enough i suppose!

What needs investigating is the red section of the logbook for transferring a vehicle to a trader. This works by alloting the vehicle to the dealer, but not adding an owner on the logbook.
I have never been brave enough to try doing this, especially as it has a section for a VAT number. But then again you have to turnover more than £50k per year to need to be VAT registered, so just buying and selling a few old cars I suspect you could get away with it?

Possibly worth ringing up the DVLA and asking?

It's illegal to transfer ownership of a car without declaring it to the DVLA.

Also, bear in mind that the current registered keeper is liable for any parking or speeding fines, SORN etc.

I had the DVLA breath down my neck once.

I have a bubble car with a nice numberplate- RAP 792.

Some git, also owning a bubble, tried to accuse me of stealing his number and chassis plates (even though I had the V5), had the boys in blue round, and everything.

Never came to anything, but at the time I was steaming!
