The wifes mazda has a abs sensor failed I belive and with the dreaded mot round the corner its time to tidy the old girl up, is there any way of testing the sensors to find out which one needs replacing other than getting some grease monkey to insert his probe into the old girl?

Cheers mike

About to try and do this myself on an Audi A4. I believe the resistance across the sensor is significantly higher on the knackered sensor (1 k-ohm). If I beat you to it I'll let you know *wink*

The way to test an ABS sensor is to connect across it with a meter set to AC-mV and then spin the wheel. If its working you should see a small induced voltage.

However for the Audi A4, just get it plugged in and save yourself the hassle is my advice! There are some fairly cheap code scanners out there now.

Fixed many an ABS sensor by removing it, cleaning all the brake dust and shit off it and the ring gear and refitting it. Always worth a try.

I have problem on my vivaro that could possibly be linked? At some occasions the front brakes bind just enough to cook them, but usually they are good. I have changed discs and pads and the calipers slide nice and easy. Any ideas?

I would be looking at the master cylinder and brake pedal first to ensure everything is fully returning and that you are not getting pressure trapped which is causing the brakes to bind.

thanks Tom. Will do some research, but I am not sure that is the problem. Do you know how a ABS unit works? could that be it? I have heard either master, ABS unit or brake hoses. I doubt brake hoses myself...
