Hi I. Have just been offered a complete s/c or option on unbuilt s/c box for a lot less cash both second hand but in your opinion which would be the best choice and also what is the main things to be looking out for when buying used s/c gears?

Cheers mike

Buy the cheaper one, as you will want to rebuild either anyway so you know it isn't fooked.

Cheers tom other than checking for excess wear is there any thing else I should be looking for? I've never dealt with straight cut gears before

Check for pitting to the gear teeth.

Depends on cost really, personally unless it was £250 quid I'd just build a new one.

£600 quid for a new gearset and bearings and you have complete piece of mind.
