leeds/wakefield.

i can't think of anyhting worse than a TI bolt gnarling up on a TI washer, thats one sure way NOT to get the correct tension into a bolt .

use one or the other but not both together,

I know the flywheel generally secures on the taper.

But using a titanium bolt in such a critical area sounds as mental as these arseholes who fit aluminium wheel nuts to their cars

I wonder is there a market for aluminium brake caliper bolts ? I can make them in shiny colours, so they're bound to sell ?

Don't slag off aluminium nuts. I was actually considering having some made by Carl *wink*

We agreed on that heat treating the threads would be futile...

Aluminium wheel nuts were used on the old aston Martin Vantage, I know some of these models were pepped up to 600bhp with no problems from the nuts. DB9 had titanium wheel nuts torqued up to 120 lbft and never a failure

I seriously doubt it!

leeds/wakefield.

If we considder that lots and lots of aftermarket wheels are supplied with stain less steel whel nuts, and this stainless steel is free cutting 303 i think a good quality 2014T6 or better still 7075 T6 alumiunium alloy will be no problem used on a mini,

i have been asked a few times in the past but ideally i would need hax bar to save time as i don't fancy having to put the flats on there, then there are the washers to make , all in all time consuming

Ive come across a few cars with Alloy wheel nuts.

Many have had the threads stripped. Some are deforming. And some have even sheared in half when trying to remove them and had to be destructively removed.

Really.....is it worth the risk ?

And making matters even worse. Half the idiots that use them, fit aftermarket wheels and spacers, so dont even have proper thread engagement for steel nuts, let alone alloy nuts !!
Drifters here are deadly for it, and have wheels falling off all the time.

Some of the alloy nuts can be very long for some reason, maybe 2" or so. Is it any wonder some motorsport rules state the stud must extend beyond the nut so they can see it has a safe thread engagement.
