before while looking up pictures i came across motorsport mini's on a-frame stands, there were 2 just behind the fron t wheels and 2 just forward of the rear wheels.... it looked quite handy but the mounting points had me... they were tubular mounts through the sill's but how solid are they and how to make them solid was a bit of a blur but i thought if they could hold up a works car then i could surely find them a benefit while assembling my mini... right??

well i was thinking of fabricating some myself to use but i was wundering if any of you have them fitted and if anyone in the know could clarify the above for me that would be great*smiley*.... i'm still in the replacing tinworm process but wouldn't mind knocking these together during the snow... oh and pic's of mounts would be good*smiley*

thanks!

i was thinking of doing something like this and was going to use the cage feet on the inside as strength . will have a trial when the cage is bolted in properly

Mayaswell knock up or buy a spit, bolt it through the damper mounts in the rear and either through the entire shell and through the removable bulkhead plate, or make it two seperate pieces but make sure its on the same axis to turn it.
I don't think I'd want to be without the one ive borrowed for bodywork, they turn on quite a tight space too.

sorry carlzilla, i should clarify myself, these stands are 4 a-frames (1 on each corner) used for maybe rebuilding mini's between race sessions... similar to axle stands but have a pin that goes into the outersill to suspend the car in the air giving full access to the underside of the floor and subframes. i'd love to have a rotissarie also but for the moment the shell is being rolled around the front garden *Rofl!*

a roll cage sounds like an idea though *Idea*

Ahh yeah i see what you mean, a set of purpose built glorified axle stands *tongue*
Got to be far easier that way than messing about trying to get stands under the subbys, when it doesn't matter where you put them, they're always in the way *indifferent*

When putting new sills on mine I inserted 4 pieces of round tube at the very ends, welded them onto the strong metal inside, drilled the sills and pushed them over and welded round the ends as well. If that makes any sense!

Found a pic:

Warwick.

sill stands!
very useful, cars sat on them right now without any rear subframes, boot floor or rear 1/4's. The sill stands are also welded to my rollcage though

Yes, tubes in sills.

Just cheapest Halfords axle stands with a piece of solid 1" bar bolted on top.

Jobs a goodun.
