I dont really see this as a problem for what these cost me, but im unsure as to whether or not i ignore this, sand it out myself to remove the high spots, or get the crown's of all 4 machined down to remove the pitting on the one, and balance the rest.
This was under some carbon i was cleaning off, i think looking at its placement it is next to the exhaust valve (dependant on which way around you have the piston) as it is almost right next to one end of the pin. Therefore leading me to believe the previous engine could have been detonating?
Opinions wanted, as always, cheers.

What i wanted to hear anyway! Its only that small area on that one piston.
Anybody know how much these can safely be dished by?

I think ignoring it might be a little stupid! If there are high spots they could lead to detonation in the engine you put them in. If it were me and I was having them dished any ways I would have that machines off and get the others matched. The sides are as important if there are marks or high spots they could lead to bore damage as the piston crown expands with heat.

Your choice at the end of the day but for the sake of £50-80 I know what I'd do....

How can high spots cause detonation? They aren't high enough to effect the CR that much.

The damage on that piston is pitting though. Just dress it with a file and ignore it.

Well, the deciding factor is whether or not i need the pistons dished ill have them surface ground, if not ill file the surface flat. I don't think det is too much of a problem as ill be lowering the cr slightly more than i need to, i always run bp ultimate or equivalent, and i have a 4x4 intercooler if that makes any difference, will probably run around 15psi on a t3 or gt17 at a later date. I could be talking bollocks but the engine wont be pushed too much, perhaps around 170bhp at a guesstimate?
