hi everyone..

was looking on ebay and came across this "wideband" afr gauge,

its seems very cheap comparing to the AEM ones(whitch i know come as a kit). its says it works with your existing lambda, we obviously dont have one so would have to get a lambda, but i was wondering would this be a mater of sourcing a wideband lambda sensor and hooking it all up? and you would have a fully working wideband AfR or is the wideband part thrown about losely in the add?

thoughts?

cheers

You would need a wideband controller as well as that only reads a 0-5v signal

This your best bet for the cheapest wideband stuff. Requires some assembly if you want to save even more cash though.

Odd they are claiming it's anything to do with wideband, when they state it takes a signal from the cars factory 02 sensor, which in most cases is narrowband.

And even if it did have a wideband sensor, there is no way it would be suitable for inter connecting with the OEM parts.

For the time being, I would advise against 14point7

I've followed this route but have had mixed results from the owner of the company.

From very helpfull to downright rude when a problem is mentioned.

The forum is littered with spam which he doesn't seem to care about and, at the moment, he doesn't seem interested in resolving a fundamental problem (upgrading the firmware).

So, although this is my own experience so far, I would suggest you consider other options at the moment.

Technically the 14point7 stuff is a very good bit of kit, but currently being let down by the owner's attitude to customers.

Just my opinion, but from personal experience :)

We are running 5 of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AEM-Wideband-AFR...=item1c2031a760

However, there have been some reported issues with the AEM 0-5v signal drifting, not a problem if you just need a gauge but could be serious if you are using it for EGO control.

So we have just bought a couple of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/INNOVATE-MTX-L-A...=item45f78df05b

The difference with the Innovate is that you can directly connect the serial data to a data-logger with a bit of electronic wizardry. So there should be no data corruption with digital/analogue conversion.

I'll let you know how they perform.

I have one of the MTX in a friends car, bought from Richard here ( UK supplier )

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Innovate-Wideban...=item35b07c5945

And I have to say, the quality of it really is excellent. All connectors, wiring etc really are top notch. And so far it's working great. It's a huge step up from the LC-1, which was a right pain in the hole.

Plus as the gauge is the controller it's neater and you still have two flexible analogue outputs as well, as the serial stream Innovative use.

Narrowbands work perfectly for monitoring stiochiometric, ie 14.7:1, Lambda 1 etc

Which is exactly what they are designed to do.

Narrowbands are used by OEMs to keep the catalytic converter working correctly. Other than that, they're not very useful.
