Hi all just wondering if anyone can help me please. I seem to have a problem with my dim dip circuit on my mini mayfair 1988, originally found when the dim dip resistor blew. can anyone please tell me the wiring configuration at the dim dip relay, i removed the relay block a few months ago as this was producing electrical problems.
any help will be gratefully recived
many thanks in advance

It is in the haines, but its quite complicated.

From memory you have earth, 12v feed, ballast resistor feed, signals from the stalk and feeds to the lights. you'll need to look in the haines for the colours.

Blue + trace is out to lights. black earth. white plus trace is the 12v supply. can't remember the others from the top of my head.

Is it not just an Inline resistor to drop the voltage to the headlights creating a dimmer dip for the side lights with ignition on?

Edit;

It seems it was a mandatory requirement from 1987 to 1996 that all are be fitted with dim dip.

There is a relay that brings them into circuit whilst the ignition is on making it Impossible to drive without headlights on in the dark.

It's not impossible for the resistor to just fail. Ate you running upraised headlights?

The resistor is, but he's asking how to wire the relay plug up *wink*

Ahhhhhh...

Well looking at the diagram in haynes you may struggle. I can tell you...,

Brown and orange is the feed from the resistor

Black is earth

Red is side light feed

Blue is full dip beam signal from light switch

Blue brown is from the stalks, dip/main beam switched

Blue and red is feed to the head lights

Green is ifnition switched fused feed from fuse box

Good luck!!!!!

thanks everyone that makes it a lot easier, i think i wired it wrong in the past as my dim dip resistor was as hot as an iron and then melted away with lots of smoke, ill have a go and let you know how i get on thanks again.

hi everyone, ive just double checked the wiring at the dim dip relay, that all seems to be correct, ive replaced the dim dip relay and also the dim dip resistor, get side light but no main or dipped beam, any ideas what to check next?

Check you have voltage at the light switch, and at both side of the resistor.

Bad earth?????
Those double push together contacts which join the lights to the loom are shit as well. Might be worth checking those. The melting issue could well be resistance in the circuit being to high due to a poor contact
