dunno if it causes this problem but..

are you using the correct carb to plenum gasket?

the type that has the extra hole in it, or is it on the right way around. look at the plenum face and check that none of the holes are covered by the gasket, if they are cut in out with a sharp knife

is the carb definately plumbed up properly, and the pipes that need blocking off are properly sealed? sounds like the same problem i had when i first did mine.

as long as your carb/plenum gasket is the right one and your carb looks like the pic below it should be fine.

yeah it will matter, it needs to be a sealed carb. 2 ways round it are getting hold of a proper turbo HIF44 or i'm pretty sure you can rebuild yours to turbo carb spec, have a search of the site i'm sure turbodave did a write up on what needs doing somewhere.

GUARANTEED your flaor chamber is open to atmosphere.

Will find a pic.

Edit:
Here you go.

You can also connect pipe 7 into the pipe between the top of the regulator and the plenum chamber using a tee-piece if you wish - but I'd block it off first and see how that goes.

Yes. You either need to get hold of a proper turbo carb, or modify yours to pressurise the float chamber.

Just to clarify - The standard carb will presurise the float chamber with the plenum and correct gasket - but it needs the pipes indicated sealling!

You might want to put some kind of sealer between the dashpot and carb body aswell.

Don't forget to swap out the needle - or modify yours aswell...

If the internal passages are clear.....I messed about with a NA carb for a bit, and although the drilling was there, as it had not done anything in 15-odd years since it was drilled it was gummed/varnished up and blocked solid!

Just block pipe 8 and connect pipe 7 to the signal line between plenum and regulator.
You really need the 'turbo' needle and spring.
Iain will sort these out for you - or contact Burlens directly.

there should be an odd hole on the one side with no partner on the other side!! so it will matter
