Hi

Having a mare with an ERA I have, it runs rich no matter how much you lean it off, if you leave it to idle it will start pumping soot out the back stink of fuel and then die, restart is impossible unless you remove fuel pipe and block it crank for a min or so and then it will catch and fire, its obviously flooding but why.

Checked and I have 4psi at carb, plugs are new and correct champions, rotor cap and leads are new.

I have never had this running correctly as I imported it from Japan a few weeks ago, when running it drives ok, and boosts to .5 bar ok. (this is before messing with it trying to lean if off this weekend)

My gut feeling is the carb is shot, but the ussual test for a hif to take dashpot of and see if you get fuel out of the jet doesnt show fuel when pump is running, but then turbo hif is different maybe fuel is going elsewhere!!!

Any help much appreciated,

I have a spare carb which i can fit but have to work out how the hell you get the one on it off, as it has air con and stuff on it and getting near the plenum is interesting!!!

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

sounds similar to what my car was doing

the carb jet (needle valve?) was playing me up, you need to take off the carb to change it, but its quite simple

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

The needle valve could be stuck open or very worn. Try removing the live wire to the fuel pump, now start the engine and run it until it until it stops {uses all the fuel in the carb}. Now turn the fuel pump on and allow it to fill the carb. I found this wash of fresh fuel usually cleans the dirt off the needle valve and allows it to seat, if this is the problem .....

May be on a normal one on my roof chopped turbo its easy enough, this ERA has air con and fuel tank vent returs via carbon cartridge under the bonnet like the injections, space is lets say....errr limited...

did you get fuel coming out of your jet, or does the extra fuel manage to go down the balance pipe to or the little drilling from the float chamber to the engine side of the butterfly?

glad I'm not alone.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

also could be the choke seals gone hard and leaking or the choke arm hitting the heatsheild and not returning

had both of those problems, one sorted with a carb rebuild, the other by tweaking the heatsheild. (if you nneed a carb rebuild kit i have some sat here *wink* )
