So it looks like I may be making a tank. I was thinking about the fuel sender and the dip sender from Merlin looks good but has anyone used them? and can I get them to work with the std fuel gauge? now it says on the ebay ad that it works with 90-0 OHMS.

so what are your thoughts?

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

I'll be guessing the 90-0 ohms is the range at which the gauge works, 90ohms resistance at empty, and 0 with a full tank, After all the standard sender is a simple resistor. Cant see why it wouldnt work mate.

This might help Si - http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/index...howtopic=204696

I have one in my car. They are available either hi-lo, or low-hi I think.

Do some googling, and price will vary a lot ( Merlin are dear )

there is another company with cheaper ones, again offered in two resistance. US and Euro, there is info on the site

http://www.asap-supplies.com/marine/azap-d...euro-resistance

There are other places that can make custom units, still cant get my head around how they do it though, as some are programmable, you cut to length etc.
I need a custom one at the minute, as Ive changed my clocks.
Although Pro_Alloy who originally made my tank managed to get a VDO in the range I needed at the time for my OEM Ford gauge.

Gill senders make bespoke units, and I think that's what I'll end up with this time.

So if you need a 250mm VDO dip tube that's 10ohms full and 60ohms empty, I could maybe help lol

Well if i can find out what i need and will it work i can build the tank around it.

Looks like lots of reading to do then

The asap ones are the cheapest I could find. Their US range is very close to what I need, but not 100%

Pity they want bloody £25 for postage to Northern Ireland. They can go and fuck ! Need one or not, I am not getting ripped off like that when postage would cost less then £5

The Gill sender's look a lot nicer though and can be custom made to me exact resistances..

Theres a chap on 16vminiclub that makes a little ecu that will callibrate the signal from the sender so that it works with standard mini clocks

Apparently Gill senders do not offer a resistive output.

Just been in contact with another company, Fozmula.

They can make pretty much anything you might need, from a mechanical dip tube to a full electronic jobbie in either a voltage output, or resistive.

Not expensive either.

That's a bloody clever piece of kit !

he needs to have tags in there for fuel sender etc. I searched and searched for all manner of senders etc when I changed my fuel gauge recently and couldnt find anything.
So I'm sure I'm not alone in looking for something like this.

Even if he could epoxy it up so people cant easily copy, and contact fuel tank suppliers for classics, alloy tanks etc so they could resell it.
I also contacted the place who made my alloy tank, and they couldnt help other than factory preset VDO sender ranges

Fantastic product, i've been scratching my head for weeks on how i was going to get round matching a metro tank to a set of mgf dials.

Andy you've saved me loads of work modifying the tank.
