Just watched it. Amazing programme. It was all being filmed when I was working there in the F1 gearbox dept. I can honestly say that its the most incredible, clean and perfectionist ridden building I have experineced. *happy*

Yeah great programme, although things were dumbed down somewhat for the mainstream audience, it's great to be able to see what's behind the scenes and the processes involved - i thought it was a really good watch.
And yes, ridiculously clean and tidy...!

I like it too, but as has been mentioned its a little dulled down for the mainstream audiance then I'd like. Thought the same about the A380 programme too.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Bit far away from what rovers production like was like.
Was a great program and some good shots of layered CF stuff.
Colin that engine is porn. Is that the V8 with the twin hyabussa heads?

I think the bloke that forged the pistons dropped a clanger when he couldn't get that cage in the first time.
Do you think Ron Dennis later sacked the bloke that fitted the wiring loom that was saying 'it hurts his back after 11/2 hours'?

Watched bits of this last night.

Look at that tunnel ram and equal length exhaust manifolds:

We can learn something from that.

Only if we could compare it with their shorter ram tunnel and unequal length exhaust manifold design results.

Any decent text book on the subject will explain the proven aspects of long or short runners etc.

It's interesting that they chose such long intake runners for a relatively high revving road engine when it must have compromised other aspects of the car by making the engine bay much deeper.

Apparently it is based on this engine, which is even more interesting :)

I'm only winding you up Paul. I am sure that all their engine designers were well versed in text books before putting pen to paper.

I don't believe you Paul. F1 designers can not have used a Nissan engine as inspiration....

Nothing to do with F1 at all as Mercedes make the engine *wink*

The nissan VH is also what they use as the basis of the Nissan GT-R's engine for the GT series from memory

edit: by Mercedes i mean HPE aka ilmor
