Sorry there has been no update for a little while, didn’t touch the Mini last weekend, couldn’t bare another weekend of cleaning, however this weekend I Manned up and got on with it,

Boot completly prepped and cleaned of grime grease etc.

I have done behind the tank, just put it back to save some space

I have been thinking, all though I am not planning on putting a turbo engine together for the Mini just yet, that’s not to say I won’t in the not so distant future.

I am really thinking about installing the turbo box on the bulkhead now, as I am down this far, then when I do want to install a turbo engine in the future I haven’t got to worry about stripping out the dash and cutting the bulkhead then.

Will it give me any problems cutting and welding the box in now? Without having a turbo engine installed yet ?

Curious to know and if anyone can advise me

Convert it to a pick up ;]

If you go turbo, use a mirage style manifold. No dodgy bulkhead mod's required.

thats correct, none at all. or make you own manifold. either way, no bulkhead mods needed.

Mirage is not the cheapest way and it most be really tight down the back so if you haven't got loads of money to through around the turbo box is needed.

Thought I would post this in here as well as it is relevant to my build 

Well after speaking to a friend, found out that one of his mates had a Mini Rollover Jig,

This is as I bought it for £30




I had to mod it a bit so the scaffold bar went over the higher crossbar from where the Clubman Bonnet closes down on higher than a roundnose, was no major, just stepped up the rear bar in the boot with a length of Unistrut, for the front I had to step it up as well, I have temporarily done this with some timber, and clamped it to see how it would all roll, works fine as it is, but Monday when I get back to work I am going to speak to the Sprinkler guys working for me on the building site and get some heavy duty threaded bar and clamp it all down properly.
The scaffold at the front is tying the crossbar to the scaffold pole so it can be rotated with the scaffold bar, at the back I knock up a piece which will then lock it when it is in position and a bar which helps rotate it.









When it has had a lick of paint an tidied up it will be fine, its practical and it works

Well I got the threaded bar today of the sprinkler guys and it worked a treat,

Only on half tilt as have alot of the parts in it haha :)

Hey all,

I spent a bit of time with an Orbital sander on the compressor and a P80 pad sanding disc on it rubbing down the rear side panel,




Can anyone give me any tips on getting this prepped and sanded down for spraying ? what grade paper to use etc ?

My thinking was just to get rid of all the Green paint as it is awful quality and take it down the the original color, then work it back up from there,

Any thoughts or tips greatly appreciated?

their is a paint can't remember the name of it but it forms a nuteral layer so you can paint over it and it won't react with tis orignal paint :)

Once you're at that stage, you may aswell go back to bare metal. There could be some hidden 'repairs' lurking.

I found a knotted wire brush on the grinder whizzes it off pretty quickly.

Hey All,

I am trying to get my self geared up for being ready to spray the mini, I realise I have to test fit the doors and the boot before I spray it all.

Can anyone show / link the particular seals from Minispares I need for my 79 shell :)

Would really appreciate it as I can't seem to find any of the right ones :/

I think all door seals for internal hinges (mk3 on) are the same up untill the late split type on the mpi minis. And on the boot I've always used the one that sits on the boot lip on the shell instead of one that clips to the bootlid.

The correct boot seal is the one that goes on the lid rather than the shell.

I have never had any luck with the clips, I end up getting pissed off and start throwing things. lol Just use some Tigerseal or similar instead if you don't have any luck with the clips.
