Managed to tidy up alot more of the bottom of the mini using an Angle grinder with a Knotted wire brush attached, it has done a realy good job to the Mini, but not to me, When using it I managed to hit a Lip and it jumped of and got caught in my Jacket and T-shirt, all twisted up and cut accross my stomach... Ouch... Its my own fault... But still, ouch

Cheers man, I'm just glad it happened in the winter and I had plenty of layers on to slow it down first before it completely annihilated me !

Hey all,

Just a pic to show how filthy the subframe and everything bolted to it was as a whole, I cleaned the callipers up and painted them blue as shown in this pic, but am going to totally re-strip them and rebuild in the new year.

More filth, I honestly believe nothing other than the carpets and the outside of the panels where ever cleaned on this car since it rolled of the Production line in “79”

All stripped, inspected, painted and stored away for the rebuild back onto the subframe.

Rear subframe removed, Come out bloody easily, No seized bolts, whoever removed it last put copper grease on everything ! (THANK YOU)

Now this was weird, can’t work out how this has ended up like this, I wouldn’t imagine anything hitting it from underneath could cause this :0/

Only thing I can think of is that someone has tried to tow it from behind with a chain or something heavy duty, making it pinch on……..

GOD This car is soooooo Dirty ! In a BAD way !

Found this whilst cleaning it up, I don’t know a lot about replacement parts but I know some of the bits on “Minispares” have “FAM” as part of their product code, I can only assume it’s a replacement from Minispares or another vendor, unless anyone else knows ?

Shhhhhhh……. Not a word to Mother ! lol had two primer coats this time, hopefully the Hammerite Yellow will take better to it.

Nice work, sounds like you got away with it with the wire brush in the grinder, they are great but lethal if your not careful. i wear overalls and a face mask, as its not very nice when they start flicking bits of wire at you.

Yeah got away with it thankfully, I was wearing a Full Face Mask, but not overalls, really should wear them out in the workshop on the car.

Judging by the rest of the car, I am going to say it is most likely the original carb at 1" 1/2 will measure it sunday evening when I am back home.

Would like to put a stage one conversion on the car and 1" 3/4 carb, that's the Hif44 isn't it I think ?

Well, pics are nearly up to date inline with how the project actually stands at present.

Nice Saturday morning of cleaning up bits, had to use that parts cleaner sooner or later, worked quite well to be honest.

All stripped and treated…….

Painted with Hammerite – Hammered Black, the finish looks really glossy buts it’s not, just the flouri lights reflecting of them in the photo………….

More to come soon ! *smiley*

Well here we are! 4 of us managed to lift and place it on the mattress on its side to make it that much easier for me to clean underneath, the little bits you can see all ready scraped where as far as I got lying on my back and doing it before I got fed up and enough was enough.

Battery box and spare wheel well surprisingly no rot……. Got away lightly there, but was a few patches above rear subframe but managed to get them all sorted.

Well finally, my build thread is up to date……..

As you see this pic is exactly how the Car lays at the moment, Between Christmas and going back to work on the 3rd plan is to get the underside 100% prepped for treatment, prime and paint then to get both subframes completely built back up and assembled.
