Hey all,

As I am getting closer to rebuilding both of the subframes, I have a question.......

When I rebuild the front subframe on the bench and i come to putting the new rubber cones in and compressing them, I heard from
Someone that I need to put a certain size spacer ontop of the tower for when I compress the cone ?

My questions are,

Has anyone done this rebuild on the bench?
Have they used this spacer to compress cones?
Any tips for me assembling the subframe on the bench ?

Thanks
Jamie.

Not sure what you mean but I've never had to use any kind of spacer when doing this job on or off the car but it may depend on which comp tool you have.

It appears your using hi-lo's just wind them right down, put cones in and wind up again. Done!

Then it had its first coat of red oxide;

Just gave the Mini another coat of Red Oxide this evening, amazing what a bit of paint can do, things seem to really be coming together with it now. :)

Question........

When I come to reassemble all the brake lines, when I screw them back together shall I put a light coat, and i mean a light coat of Copper grease on the connectors ?

Or is this a 100 % No ? As I wouldn't want to risk anything blocking the brake lines ? just after anyones comments on it ?

i've always used a bit of copper grease on the threads and between the fitting the pipe; Having said that, I alaways keep it away from the mating surfaces and internla parts to prevent contamination and sealing issues

Hey all,

I hope everyone has had a good weekend ? Well today was a good Day, managed to take the Red oxide on the underside up to its 4th and final coat, now to move onto the seam sealing and stone chipping etc.

Also managed to remove all heater hoses, steering column and clutch and brake master cylinders. :)

Evening all,

Not done anything on the mini this week, but i am seriously considering ripping out the wiring loom, have found in the Engine bay numerous amounts of cables just tape jointed, and the cables into the headlamps are cut all along them and back to bare cable.

I'm really against just jointing them with crimp connectors in the engine bag as I have come this far with the car, seems silly to not go into the wiring completely,

I have never gone into this depth with wiring on a car it I am honest, trying to see how to attack this, buy a new wiring loom? Rip current loom out and see if I can make a start on replacing nakered cables on it? make my own loom ?

At least if I do it, I will know how it has been Done and will hopefully get a bloody good understanding.

Hmmmmmm..........
