alright everyone its been a long time since i was on this site and this has prob been asked before but here goes.

I have got my hands on a metro turbo engine for my mini and i want to try and get as much power out of it as possible but without going in to deep with money.

my plan is to, whip the head off, get it ported and polished and put a high lift cam in it.

I have been reading alot of stuff about the engine and have been getting a lot of mixed reviews.

could you point me in the right direction. is it worth getting the chambers ground out so i can get more boost? how much boost could i put into the engine without it getting to risky? what kind of BHP would i get out of it? is it worth my while getting the flywheel lightened and balanced or would this just eat away at my top end speed?

any help would be great. thanks

Right then.

Number 1, Please use the search feature on this site as everything you have asked has been answered many many times. *smiley*

Number 2, If it's a standard unrebuilt metro turbo engine I'll bet a fiver that its fucked and want rebuilding.

Oh and welcome back + good luck with your endeavours!

Firstly, as John pointed out, more reading needed.

A high lift cam is not the right idea. Turbo engine do not need high lift long duration cams, quite the opposite.

As a general rule, the standard engine is capable of making way more power than the standard gerabox an clutch can take.

But sadly the transmission is the costly bit.

Fit an IC, up the boost to 12psi happy days. Obviously you;ll need to make sure fuelling and ignition timing are all spot on. I'd be very conservative on the advance to start with, max 24 deg on boost.

This all depends how much money you actually want to spend as every1 budget when they say not to much money is quite a bit different my first engine was totally std apart from opened chambers small intercooler set up green cotton air filter & 12psi the out come was 130bhp at the crank 105 at the wheels on peter burgess rr made a quick little motor on a budget

The engine will last a gd while before it need rebuild but it all depends on how u will look after it ! If u just jump in it Raff the arse off it and don't allow to cool down or warm up no engine will last as long as it could with a turbo engine it's all about cooling my engine build is costing me. 3500 with out turbo and that will be 130bhp at the wheels and I already had the metro turbo engine have u had a read of www.turbo-minis.com that's the best place to start as it explains a lot

spot on for the infor there guys. reading threw other pages there is alot to take in with so many people doing so many different things.

I think wat il do is get head ported and polished. what is a safe size to take the cambers out to so that i can maybe up the boost to around 14/15psi

is there anyone got any pictures of a head after its been done?

so do you think its a good idea to leave standard turbo cam in it rather than putting a high lift one in it?

Not to long to be honest then it done in the rings in 1 cylinder but it was an unknown engine so who knew how long it had new build now is ported head (chambers were already done) phase 2 cam total seal rings ported ex manifold upgraded intercooler picking my straight cut box up on the weekend set or roller rockers think that's about it setting boost to around 15-16psi wouldn't mind seeing it around the 160 mark which I think it should be
